State League Predictions – Rounds 9 & 10

South Perth Vs West Stirling

Souths (3-5) take on West Stirling (2-5) in a series that should see them at .500 baseball by Monday. Coming off a good win against Gosnells last week the boys from South Perth should account for the Indians without too much trouble. The pitching match-up of Clint Knight and Mark Kelly will keep one of the games reasonably close as Knight will give another good outing for West Stirling, but it won’t be enough to beat Mark Kelly who should see his ERA lowered this week. Look for Kelsa to add to the 23 strikeouts he has already amassed.

Vic Park / Belmont Vs Gosnells

The Reds (5-2) host The Hawks (4-4) in what should be two hard fought games. The Reds have been the surprise packet of the State League so far and should go into this weekend with a lot of confidence having beaten last year’s grand finalists Wanneroo quite comfortably on the weekend. Gosnells won’t be easy to beat, by any stretch though and will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing loss to South Perth. Will we see the matchup of Kevin Roovers and Jarad Fleming, both of whom are currently in the top 10 of most State League pitching statistics? I am sure the boys from Forster Park will make Ryan McCullough’s homecoming a pleasant day for him. Look for a split here.

Swan Districts Vs Melville

The first placed Black Ducks (8-0) play the streaking Braves (3-5) this week in what will be  the games of the week. So far the Black Ducks have yet to put a foot wrong with great pitching from Dylan Peac*** and the enigma that is Shane Tonkin. But as each week passes you have to wonder if they can keep it up? Melville should be at full strength and with the middle of the lineup featuring Graham, Kennelly, Kennelly and Scorer you have to wonder if the Black Ducks undefeated ways will come to an end? That said, don’t be surprised to see Swans win two by 10. Either way, it should be entertaining. The real question though? Will State League ERA leader (0.39) Tonks join his old mate Graham Lloyd in the Barbagallo Perth Heat? Black Ducks to have their first loss, but not their second. Split.

Morley Eagles Vs Perth

Can the young hitters of Perth (4-4), lead by league hitting leader Steve Wrigglesworth, beat Morley (4-3) ace Brad Reaves? That question, will be the difference in Perth sweeping Morley or not. Perth coach Ken McGee will have his boys jumping of their skins to get back on track after being swept by Swans last week. Look for the much improved Richard Michel and import Brooke Coatsworth to keep the Morley team under control as the bats of Tope, Moyle, Pragnell and Harris join in the action to compliment Baron, McGee and Wrigglesworth. Perth to sweep in two hard fought games.

Wembley Vs Wanneroo

Wanneroo (4-3) will sweep easily. Last week’s disappointing loss to the Reds won’t do any favours for bottom of the ladder Wembley (1-7) as Steve Fish’ boys look to get back to their winning ways. The Roo Boys will have too much pitching, as Steve Fish slots back into the State League rotation after last week’s rainout, and will be looking to score a lot of runs after being kept to only two hits last week. Wembley will try hard and Tony Bacci will probably get a few hits but it won’t be enough.

Dial-a-Duck, you clearly are just a Swans hater. What did they do to you mate? You seem to have a bit of an issue there.

Jnr,

From within the team we know we lost because Gosnells hit well, our pitchers didn’t pitch well enough and Roovers pitched a great game for Gosnells. Pretty simple. No one is blaming the umpires for the loss.

And next week, we’ll do our best to win against South Perth.

And if you think winning 5 games is a Cinderella story your expectations are a lot lower than ours.

Straughnie, what happened mate? 11 hits to 4 and lost? After watching you guys on Friday I was kind of agreeing with your previous comment.

Hub – good to hear that a senior player is putting the story straight and not blaming the umpires! Lets face it though a lot of the previous 10 – 15 years, players at the club blame others instead of taking responsiblity themselves. Look at the coaches that have gone through there…..Steed, Driscoll, Harris……these guys have had success to an extent. But for some reason the players cant take the responsiblity. 4fa and Raped Red some like players so I hope you address this issue with the playing group!

Cinderella story’s always start somewhere. And Vic Park starting the way they started this season is a huge surprise and was the start of the story!

Ok the umpire on the weekend at the Vic park vs Gos game was the worst i have seen in my time in state leauge, however not one vic park player complained they left it for the coaching staff to do!

Vic Park are a change team, they are a hard working, never say die team.
For those people who think they are going to be the Tampa Bay of our State Leauge comp than your wrong because teams create there own history and all though vic park over the past 10 years have been no where things this year have changed from top to bottom the SL coach has got his young talent on track, they have a new president and most important all there other senior teams are strong and there is compition for SL spots which over the past years there has not been.
People say they stack there AAA team well over the past few year they have but not this year with a Catcher who is 17 who is leading the team in BA and is throwing out runners aswell. ever week 18’s come in off the bench and have a impact and they have now won 3 out of 5 games and have started turning it on with the sticks so dont be suprise if Vic-Park 4peat in AAA and knock on the door for finals in what counts SL

i am sick of people bagging out on vic park like is said sure things have been bad but it’s all turning around now, i know you have to earn your respect and they are well on the way to doing that.

Double header this week vs South Perth will tell a very big story i will be watching with alot of intrest.

Jr, the previous 10-15 years at Vic Park is the PREVIOUS 10-15 years at Vic Park. Nothing that we do now will change that. The current group of players, coaches and committee members at Vic Park are more concerned about winning our next game than worrying about things in the past we have no control over.

We lost on the weekend, but we certainly aren’t making any excuses about it. If someone from Vic Park who watched the game says something on here we can’t do much about it but I’m pretty sure, in fact I’m 100% certain that was written earlier was not by one of our players.

And on that to all players & supporters of the VPBBC – Can I just re-iterate with Steve Fish said on a previous post on this site. Please don’t sh!t talk umpires in these blogs (Or in the games for that matter). Even though you may think you are doing a community service you’re probably just causing more trouble than we need.

A player you are spot on with what you have said. The Reds are a changed team and are heading in the right direction. It isnt going to happen over night but it is certainly going to happen with what i have seen so far. Jnr I never blamed the umpire for Vic Park losing on Sunday. I said he is an i**** for calling strikes out of spite. I did also mention that the Reds had their chances but as Hub said Roovers throw very well and has a nice off speed pitch. I will never blame an umpire for a team losing.

Lets hope the Reds bounce back against south perth this weekend. Should be a great double header seen as both team are so close on win loss.

Vic Park 4peat this year in AAA’s would be an awesome effort. If anyone says they have stacked the side this year then they obviously have no idea. So many young kids coming into the game when ever they can and holding their own as well.

Yes it is true Vic Park have not been the most compistive team in SL for some time now. But with the work that is being put in on the track and around the club is all steps in the right direction. No we didnt swing the bats on the weekend and yes we did get beaten by the better team on the day.

As for the umpire well we as players dont comment on them we leave it to our coaches to do. But i am sorry Hub I do hope he went home last night and thought about what he did yesterday…..’

To all who have said it and thought it there is no way you can say anything about Vic Park stacking their AAA’s. I mean this year we have an awesome young guy behind the dish who is doing a fantastic job. A really young guy at 2b and 18’s coming in off the bench every week. We are all about building our future. I for one know I’m not going to be playing for ever and look forward to seeing the young guys take over and make Vic Park the Club everyone wants to beat.

Good Luck to all on the weekend (except South Perth) Sorry boys

Not so mighty ducks

Went down to north swan park on the weekend and saw that a whole bunch of ‘blackducks’ knees were buckled by the melville import wth his array of pitches… Well I guess thats what happens when a team like swans finally sees some decent pitching! Bring back pete torpy!!

Clearly Pete Torpey wrote that last comment lol

come on Swans loose 1 game big deal. They will win the flag there the best team with the best line up with soon to be an even better pitching roster how can you bet agaisnt them they are 8-1.

I have seen Wannaroo, Perth, Gosnells and South Perth as well as a few lesser teams and not one of those teams have enouigh depth to compeat with swans over a 3 game series not enough pitching depth.

The only problem swans will have is when the heat play but i think they have enough depth to struggle through that part of the season

“Not so mighty ducks”, from a person who enjoys watching baseball. How about your team makes the top four and then beats Swans in a best of 3 series before you start popping off about 1 victory.
On a better note it has been great watching so many close games and a few apparent upsets. Well done VicPark I hope these changes are perminent.

“a player” I dont think Swans will struggle when the Heat team plays. With only Whitey and Lurch from Swans in the Heat team and another pitcher on the way. I think they will be ok

I agree….how are the Black Ducks going to struggle when the Heat play…….can anyone remember what happened last year when the heat played? Isnt that when they started their 14 game winning streak? Plus they dont have as many players in the Heat squad this year….come on people. The Black Ducks have proven depth and have taken this League to another level….is there any other team going to step up??? How many Championships do they need to win to prove themselves? AREADY DONE!
