2009/10 State League Season – Week 12

More moving and shifting on the State League ladder last weekend, with Swans dropping 2 to Melville and  Morley splitting with the Reds, leaving Wanneroo a game clear on the top of the ladder, while the Cubbies’ Scott Mitchinson surprised many at Inglewood Oval by going yard on Sunday to ruin Perth’s life member’s weekend on the field with a sweep to cement Perth’s spot at the foot of the ladder.  Let’s have a quick look forward to this weekend’s games, the last before the Christmas/New Year break.

Gosnells Hawks (5th, 11-7) vs Melville Braves (6th, 9-7-1) – Friday 6:30pm at Baseball Park, Sunday 3:15pm at Tom Bateman Reserve

The Hawks are launching an assault on the top 4, having won their last four games, while Melville are attempting to do likewise after a sweep of Swans last weekend.

Prediction: With both teams once again at full strength, this series should be extremely interesting.  Split.

South Perth Cubs (4th, 11-6-1) vs Wanneroo Giants (1st, 14-4) – Friday 9:00pm at Baseball Park, Sunday 3:15pm at Grayden Reserve

The Cubbies are now within striking distance of top spot with a sweep of Perth last start, while the Giants moved to the top of the ladder after they swept Wembley and other results fell their way.

Prediction: The Cubbies should beat Fish on Friday night, but Thommo is on fire right now.  Split.

Perth (10th, 3-15) vs Morley Eagles (2nd, 13-5) – Saturday 3:30pm and Sunday 3:15pm at Inglewood Oval

The Big Blue Machine has well and truly broken down and is showing no signs of starting up any time soon, while the Eagles hit a stumbling block last weekend with a loss to the Reds.

Prediction: It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that Morley should sweep this series.

Swan Districts Black Ducks (3rd, 12-6) vs Vic Park/Belmont Reds (8th, 4-13-1) – Saturday 3:30pm at Ron Jose Oval, Sunday 3:15pm at Forster Park

The Black Ducks hit a bump last week, being swept by the Braves, while the Reds are coming off a win over Morley and are full of confidence.

Prediction: Swannies to bounce back with a couple of victories.

Wembley Magipes (7th, 7-11) vs West Stirling Indians (9th, 3-13-1) – Saturday 3:30pm and Sunday 3:15pm at Henderson Park

Wembley have slowed since their break-neck start to the season dipping to 7th spot, while the Indians have struggled to get out of the blocks this season, winning just 3 and a half games.

Prediction: A split for these teams heading into the break.

There are my predictions for the weekend’s games.  To everybody in Blog Land, a very merry Christmas, a happy and safe new year and see you at the ballpark!

Coach,

u are gutless and not very knowledgeable either….
u r either someone at the club that has no idea or an outsider that has no idea about the player personal down at wembley and the politics that come with every club…..

a …. i am not coaching
b…… who are u to make assumptions….unless u r tommy lasorda or joe torre keep your gutless comments to yrself unless u want to name yrself ……..

Giants, hawks and morley 2 games. pies and indians to split.

Coach??? What team do you coach. Sounds like there is a little disharmony down the pies…..what else would you expect when u have williamson as part time coach that wouldn’t get a coaching role with little league at any club. Sherwood looks like he has been left with the tough few rounds in the past couple of weeks. Lets all hope that Wembley can get rid of the few bad eggs at the club before the end of the season so that they will have enough players for the 10/11 season. If the clubs gonna keep the Driscolls, Risingers, Bacci, Sherwood, Johnson, Cosi’s they need to get rid of the problems that r causing this rift within the club. To many people that think they can do a great job coaching but nobody willing to put their hand up just putting the tough jobs back on the people that are wanting to keep the club going. They were on a few good wins when they played the teams that r now hovering around the bottom.

At the end of the day we r all here for the love of the game and if ur gonna get on here and call urself ‘coach’ tell us your name, ur last coaching gig and how well u did.

My son is lucky enough to play at a great club where everyone is on the same page and therefor retain almost all of our players year after year. We want to encouraging juniors into this game so we need to remember why we are all here.

Coach leave mike alone and tell us who you are. Yes my guys have had a tuff run and yes maybe we couldve won some games. But we didn’t and that is baseball. Baseball fan thanks for your words, I will try not to take anymore holidays so I’m not part time anymore. Good luck for the last round fella’s and have a good break

looks as if the crust around the pies is crumbling and the guts r gonna fall out….politics within clubs always hurts, it gets harder when there arn’t many wins on the board..always someone willing to have a crack yet not be willing to stand and giv it a go…as a club you must forget about those people because they are usually blow ins who will move on to other places anyway…

Rabble

Nothing new that cracks have started appearing at the Pies. They have been rabble for 10 years so why is it news worthy that it’s happened again this year. The Risingers, Johnsons and Gillards ripped the heart out of the club back then and it’s never recovered. They only have themselves to blame as they were run by the above players and were led down a path where they played there mates and played for fun instead of playing there most talented team and they didn’t care if they won or lost. Now that has rubbed off on all current players and playing Wembley the last few years is just like having a forfeit.

Balk

Understand that there was a balk called in the AAA’s at Vic.Park.. It caused the runner at third to come home and score the winning run for Vic. Park.. Swans were attempting a intentional walk at the time..called on the catcher

How bad is Perth?

Was at the Morley v. Perth game on Sunday. Perth are not good this year.

Balk… I would think the balk called on the catcher would have been called in accordance with rule 8.05 (l) which states “It is a balk when the pitcher, while giving an intentional base on balls, pitches when the catcher is not in the catcher’s box.”

LD

Balk, If you are attepmting an intentional walk in AAA’s for starters you probably deserve to loose and secondly, it is not that hard to intentionally walk someone, get it right!

just curious who everyone thought was the top couple state league hitters and pitchers at the break, who gets the mvp vote, who is the most exciting player, who has the most upside to go anywhere, who do you respect out there? just curious half way through who the top players are…..

Take out J Mcgee, Tope, Lindberg, Unwin, Pragnell, Nielsen etc and of course you going to struggle. Perth have won 5 flags in the last 20 years which isn’t a bad run (Melville, Gosnells, West Stirling ????) so you have to start again somewhere. Our 19’s (1st), 17’s (2nd) & 15’s (1st) all contain quality players who are the future of the club and with a host of big name players looking to return next season, Perth can put up with 1 bad season because they have a strong 10 years ahead of them. By the way what state league club has won the most flags????

Debo

I heard a rumor Vic Park played Carine in a Tuesday practice game with wood bats and lost 3-8 to Carine. Can anyone confirm this? Id like to see more contests of this sort during the season! What would this do to both leagues?

“How bad is perth” i agree they are bad..it happens! it also happens that they have been one of the powerhouses of the league for a very long time!longer than any current state league player has played at that level!!its either you have had your butt kicked and still have a tear in your eye or you are jealous that you have not been part of a successful club like perth, souths or swans..good clubs know how to survive when there isn’t many wins on the ladder..

Jimmy, did you pass grade 1, or can’t you count, we won four through the nineties with several guys still playing for our club’s win in the noughties, and we are still the only club in the state to have won at least one flag in every decade of our existence and more premierships than any other club.
Sour grapes I say.
